"Hypoglycemia is the clinical term for low levels of blood glucose. Glucose is the main source of energy for the cells of the human body. As such, blood glucose is usually very well-regulated by the endocrine system. Normal blood glucose level is about 90mg/100ml, with comparatively small fluctuations naturally occurring due to fasting, high carbohydrate meals, activity level and time of day."

"Hypoglycemia effects are mainly related to the central nervous system, the digestive system and the circulatory system.Hypoglycemia effects will be most noticeable in relation to the central and autonomic nervous systems. The human body uses glucose as its primary fuel to power the muscles and the brain for their daily tasks and activities...The more alarming effects will come as a result of abnormalities in the autonomous nervous system. Intense, debilitating hunger may be experienced particularly by patients whose hypoglycemia resulted from fasting. Further effects include paling of the complexion, flaking, drying as well as discoloration of the lips and the surrounding skin. A patient is also guaranteed to experience profuse and constant sweating regardless of the climate or temperature in the area. Long-term effects of hypoglycemia are very dangerous especially if left unchecked. Brain damage could occur, resulting in frequent loss of consciousness, retrograde amnesia and in severe cases, could put the patient in a comatose state."
